Agrium begins Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) capacity expansion at Texas plant

Agrium has begun construction to expand Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) capacity at its Borger, Texas nitrogen facility. The company hosted a ground breaking ceremony in May 2014 to mark the beginning of construction.

The project will include a new urea production unit, which is expected to have an annual capacity of 610,000 metric tonnes, of which approximately 100,000 metric tonnes will be used to produce 308,000 metric tonnes of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).

Earlier in March 2014 Agrium's Board of Directors approved the expansion project which is expected to be completed in the second half of 2015.

"The upgrade and expansion at the Borger facility will not only continue to grow our nitrogen footprint, but also allow us to better meet the needs of growers in this important agricultural region. The project will use the latest in environmental control technology and ensure the facilities future longevity" said Chuck Magro, President and CEO at Agrium.
