DEF Tracker: Prices for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) totes increase

Christopher Goodfellow - 3 April 2012

The average price of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tote refills has increased, as the pump price moves downward, according to DEF Tracker.

The latest issue, released on March 28, says the average U.S. tote price increased by two cent to $2.02/G between February and March 2012. In contrast the DEF pump price at truck stops fell by one cent to $2.74/G.

Monica Baker, a senior analyst at Integer Research, which publishes DEF Tracker, told "The impact of increasing urea costs, which is the raw material used for DEF manufacture, can vary along the supply chain. That said, suppliers will have to react to an increased cost basis and we are beginning to see that in the market place."

A tote is a 275 or 330 gallon transportable container often stored at fleet facilities. Many DEF distributors fill these containers on-site.

DEF Tracker includes pump price data for every U.S. state and Canadian province offering the facility and further price references for full truck load bulk deliveries, less than full truck load bulk, tote refills and packaged products, accompanied by analysis from industry experts.
