Iowa Fertilizer, a subsidiary of Orascom Construction Industries, has been granted $1.6 million by the Iowa Economic Development Agency towards building a new urea and ammonia plant in Lee County, Iowa, which will include Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) production facilities.
The award was given to assist with the creation of 160 skilled jobs in Lee County.
The funding will come from bonds created as part of The Heartland Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2008. Orascom will be investing just over $100 million of its own capital into the project.
Orascom Construction Industries has corporate offices in Cairo, Egypt.
