JCB introduces Tier 4 Final engine to its backhoe loaders

Rebecca Hayward - 13 March 2015

Construction equipment manufacturer JCB has announced that its 2015 backhoe loader models will feature Tier 4 Final engines, as well as a high degree of machine automation.

The company's range of EcoMAX diesel engines achieve Tier 4 emissions standards without the need for a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

Both the 3CX Super and 4CX Super engines use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), requiring the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), to meet Tier 4 Final emissions standards. According to the company, the compact SCR system has a DEF-to-fuel ratio of 2-3%.

The Tier 4 Final emissions standards for off-highway vehicles came into effect on 1 January 2014 and requires emissions of NOx and Particulate Matter (PM) to be reduced by approximately 90%.
