Hitachi launches Tier 4 Final LC-6 excavators

Niels Tholen - 18 February 2015

Hitachi has launched its new Tier 4 Final LC-6 excavator range. The LC-6 range includes a 177 hp ZX250 model and two 271 hp models: the ZX350 and the ZX380.

In order to comply with Tier 4 Final regulations, the LC-6 range uses advanced aftertreatment systems including Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). Hitachi has chosen to achieve NOx reduction primarily by using EGR, minimizing SCR use and reducing the need for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). In order to ensure good operation in cold conditions, the DEF lines are surrounded by engine coolant lines which help defrost the DEF which freezes below -11 oC.

Models in the LC-6 range have a more effective piston design than older models, which eliminates the need for a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) as the engine can achieve low particulate matter levels on its own.

As of 2014, US Tier 4 Final emission standards are in effect for off-highway equipment between 19 to 560 kW.
