EXCLUSIVE: Integer forecasts Brazil to have the largest AUS 32 market of the BRIC countries

Rebecca Hayward - 7 July 2014

Fabricio Cardoso, Senior Analyst at Integer Research presented on new AUS 32 business opportunities in the BRIC countries at the 10th Integer Emissions Summit Europe in Dusseldorf on 19 June 2014. Cardoso described how the key driver in these countries are the emissions standards which are currently, for some of them, many years behind Europe and North America.

Brazil has effectively implemented the most stringent emissions standards of the BRIC countries.  PROCONVE P-7 (equivalent to Euro V) has been in place since January 2012 and has been driving the use of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) in most of the medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. The SCR market in Brazil, even though much smaller than the European and North American markets, is growing and its AUS 32 consumption in 2020 should be similar to the volumes required in Europe in 2013.

Brazil will remain the third largest market after Europe and the U.S. The country currently has more than 5,000 ARLA 32 selling locations, with the highest demand in the Southeast. The second emerging country with an existing AUS 32 market is Russia, however the volumes are still small. As of June 2014, there are only 50 selling locations in the country.

The main challenges for the Brazilian ARLA 32 market are a lack of infrastructure for bulk product, the use of OBD (on-board diagnostics) deactivating devices, and uncertified and low quality ARLA 32.
