Cummins starts production of Tier 4 Final 6-cylinder engines

Rebecca Hayward - 10 February 2014

Cummins has started production of 6-cylinder engines which meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 Final emissions regulations.

Output is expected to increase across the 190 bhp to 675 bhp engines in 2014, as off-highway manufacturers release machines ready to meet the new emissions standards which came into effect on 1 January, 2014.

"By making an early start with Tier 4 Final development, we were able to undertake our largest-ever field test and OEM installation program, extending to more than 70 machines operating under the most demanding duty cycles and challenging geographies, including high altitude, high humidity, extreme heat and cold," said Hugh Foden, Executive Director, Cummins Off-Highway Business.

The engines will be featured at the CONEXPO trade show in Las Vegas in March 2014, where Cummins will unveil its latest generation of Tier 4 Final 6.7- to 15-liter engines.
