DEF Tracker: U.S. Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) prices decrease marginally in December and confirm the overall declining trend in 2013

Laura Cross - 23 December 2013

The December edition of DEF Tracker reported a fall in prices across all DEF bulk delivery modes in the U.S. compared with the previous month. In contrast, prices for full truck loads (FTL) and tote refills increased slightly in Canada, while less than full truck load (LTL) prices remained stable. This trend has been observed in recent months, however, compared with January 2013, prices for bulk DEF deliveries have fallen in both countries.

The highest tote refill prices continue to prevail in the West Coast region with Salt Lake City, UT and Phoenix, AZ posting the highest prices in the U.S. In Canada, Toronto, ON recorded higher prices than Calgary, AB and Montreal, QC.

Average DEF truck stop prices remained stable at US$2.79 per gallon in the U.S., which has been the case since November 2012, while the Canadian national average has also remained unchanged at CA$0.80 per liter since October 2011.

In the latest edition, DEF Tracker added price references for Denver, CO, and the publication now covers 21 regional hubs in the U.S. (Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, OH; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Memphis, TN; Nashville, TN; New York, NY; Oklahoma City, OK; Phoenix, AZ; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; St. Louis, MO and Tampa, FL) and three hubs in Canada (Calgary, AB; Montreal, QC; and Toronto, ON).
