DEF Tracker: Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pump prices increase

Christopher Goodfellow - 8 June 2012

The average U.S. DEF pump price increased by seven cent to $2.81/G between April and May, according to DEF Tracker, the biggest pump price movement since the price referencing service launched in October 2011.

Pilot Flying J and Love's Travel Stops increased pump pricing by $0.10/G across their networks at the start of May (although the pricing at Pilot's Canadian locations remained level at CAD$0.799/L). Between them, the two truck stop chains account for 80% of the locations offering bulk DEF at the pump.
Monica Baker, a senior analyst at Integer Research, which publishes DEF Tracker, told discoverDEF.com: "Increasing raw material prices have fed through to truck stops. However, the impact has been less severe when compared to tote and bulk deliveries."
The average price of DEF delivered in bulk and tote formats increased in each of the five U.S. MSAs covered by DEF Tracker between April and May, 2012, following announcements about price increases from national distributors.
In the latest edition, Integer added pricing references for Montreal, Canada, and coverage will be expanded in coming months, Baker said.
