discoverDEF.com now
lists 410 locations across North America with bulk Diesel Exhaust
Fluid (DEF) dispensing at the fuel island. This is an increase of
over 170% since June 2011, when the pump network
reached 150 locations.
Most locations offering DEF at the pump are operated by large
truck stop chains such as Pilot Flying J, which has 223 locations
offering DEF at the pump. Pilot remains the only company providing
DEF at the island in Canada, with four locations online.
Love's Truck Stops also accounts for
a large portion of the market, with 113 locations offering DEF at
the island and plans to provide this service at
every one of its stores by the end of the year. Similarly to
Pilot, it brings new pumps online almost every week. TA (Travel
Centers of America) has also undergone a massive expansion
recently, going from nine locations equipped with pumps in October
2011 to 55 currently. The remaining market is accounted for by
independent truck stops and smaller chains such as Sapp Bros.
Texas has the highest number of locations equipped with pumps,
with 48. Texas is followed by Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.
The price of DEF varies across the U.S.. The latest issue of the
DEF Tracker reported the average North
American pump price to be
$2.75/gallon. Canada is considerably more expensive, with
prices averaging CAN$0.80/litre.
discoverDEF.com was
launched in 2010. Its sister site for Europe, FindAdBlue.com, lists over 4200
locations equipped with pumps. A Brazilian DEF locator, EncontreARLA.com.br, is
due to launch in March of this year.
