Navistar will no longer offer Cummins engines because of its
decision to use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) in its 2010
models.
Cummins president, Rich Freeland, said SCR was the right choice
to meet the new EPA regulations, regardless of this
development:
"In each emissions cycle there's a decision: can you stretch and
get a little more out of the technology you've got? Our conclusion
was that trying to stretch some more out of the 2007 technology was
going to have a very negative impact on our customers, so we made
the decision to move to the new technology."
At the Mid-American Trucking Show a Cummins spokesperson said
the manufacturer had already sold 2,500 EPA2010 engines.
